Continuous Mining Machine Operators

Continuous Mining Machine Operators operate self-propelled mining machines that rip coal, metal, and nonmetal ores, rock, stone, or sand from the face and load it onto conveyors. They control the speed and direction of the machine, cutting into the mineral deposit in a continuous operation. These operators also monitor the operation of the machine to ensure safety and efficiency, conduct routine maintenance, and may repair equipment as needed. Additionally, they may perform tasks such as bolting and timbering roof and walls to support the mine roof.
